The Fox 6 StormWarn Center is a high definition state-of-the-art weather forecasting facility led by Chief Meteorologist J-P Dice.  Fox 6 is the largest television weather operation in Alabama.  Mickey Ferguson, Fred Hunter, Wes Wyatt, and Dennis Washington are all Alabama natives with experience forecasting the state’s always challenging weather using cutting-edge technology. 

At the heart of the StormWarn Center is VIPIR.  The system uses patented algorithms that allow for early detection of tornadoes and damaging winds.  We also run two forecast models in-house including a 6km Weather Central Microcast model and an 8km WRF. 

We depend on a network of webcams and towercams to visually track severe weather.  We also have a fully-equipped H2 Hummer storm chase vehicle called the StormTracker.  Whether it’s a tornado or a hurricane, we take the StormTracker to where the weather is happening.
