Ida is getting closer to the Alabama coast line. Winds within the hour winds have gusted to 52 mph at Fort Morgan and 55 mph at a spot just west of Foley. The storm is moving north at a slightly slower forward speed at 13 mph, and now about 100 miles south-southwest of Mobile. Here [...]

It is 8:30 p.m. here in Orange Beach, and the winds are howling. Wind gusts are blowing an estimated 45-50 mph across the city, making driving fairly hazardous. Thankfully, very few people are out driving right now.

Our latest 6km Microcast model is backing off on the precipitation amounts from Ida. Again the heaviest rain still seems to track to the south of I-20/59. The entire Fox 6 StormWarn team will keep you posted.

Tropical Storm Ida, at 3 pm, is located just 60 miles southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River and 165 miles south-southwest of Pensacola. Throughout the morning, Ida has weakened to a Tropical Storm, however it remains just under hurricane strength with sustained winds at 70 mph.

The wind is slowly, but steadily increasing here in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores as Ida moves closer to land. I’ve posted a few pictures above of the swells at the Cotton Bayou beach access in Orange Beach — just awesome to look at.
