This Week’s Forecast

High pressure will be the dominate force for the next few days across the Southeast.  Looks like forecast models are slowing down a late week cold front.  It now looks like we’ll make it through Thursday dry with the best chance of rain Friday afternoon into Saturday.   There is a slight chance of some Winter [...]

A Windy Night Ahead

A cold front is pushing a line of thunderstorms eastward across the lower Mississippi valley Saturday evening, and it appears we’ll be seeing that weather system move into Alabama’s western counties soon after midnight.  Our main concern is with the pressure-gradient winds which could gust above 30 mph and topple some trees now standing loosely [...]

Rain On The Way…

Starting out with clouds and some fog around the area this morning…we should see at least a few peeks of sun by this afternoon, most likely in west Alabama. It will be a windy day today ahead of our next system that approaches tomorrow…the National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for the [...]

Weekend Forecast

If you watched our Winter weather special, you may remember the forecast calling for above average precipitation this Winter and more severe weather.  Well, it looks like it’s coming true.  We had a small bought with storms Thursday and it looks like we’ll have to stay on top of the weather late Saturday night through [...]

Huntsville Tornado

We captured this still from video provided by our Raycom Media sister station WAFF.  As a former Huntsville meteorologist, the storm naturally captured my attention.  In my 11 years of working in Huntsville, I never witnessed such a well-defined funnel cloud over the metro area.

Favored Severe Development

The SPC has outlooked areas north of I-20 for possible tornado development.  The main question will be dewpoints…if we can get dewpoints into the lower 60s…we’ll likely see some severe weather this afternoon.  We’re keeping a close watch here in the Fox 6 StormWarn Center.  The tornado threat is fairly low – expect fewer storms [...]

Afternoon Update

Storms will likely remain west of I-65 through 6pm.  The strongest storms will produce winds greater than 40mph, heavy rainfall, and possibly small hail.  Localized flooding will be a problem – especially close to rivers and other waterways.  This system will likely bring rainfall totals of 2+” across  Central Alabama.  The primary limiting factor with [...]

Severe Possibilites

The Storm Prediction Center has issued its outlook for Wednesday.  Looks like we’ll see some stronger storms tomorrow evening with a small risk of tornadoes.  While the risk of hail and gusty winds will be present tomorrow night through Thursday morning, the overall tornado risk should remain minimal.  As I indicated on Fox 6 News [...]

Severe Weather Threat – Maybe?

It seems we have two kinds of weather around these parts – either it’s really really cold or we’ve got mild temperatures and severe weather.  Of course, these days you can’t even find pleasant weather in San Diego.  Southern California is dealing with heavy rain and winds gusting up to 50mph.
What about our neck of [...]
