Get ready for some hot temperatures this week. Highs are still expected to reach near triple digits by Thursday and Friday thanks to a large dome of high pressure over the Southeast. We often talk about the Feels Like or Heat Index on television. But, what does that mean exactly? In simple terms, it’s what [...]

We’ll see high temperatures drop some over the weekend as readings get back to near normal. It probably won’t be any less uncomfortable, though, as the humidity will remain quite high with dew point temperatures expected to stay above 70º.
Rain may help to cool us off each afternoon, with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms [...]

The overall look of weather maps for the next week looks very much like a typical July pattern for the Southeast and the nation as a whole. Upper highs will be found over the southwestern U.S. and the western Atlantic ocean, with a “break” – or weakness – in between. We lie within that spot [...]

Finally, our weather pattern has made the transition to one more typical of July here in the South. As opposed to a week ago when a blocking ridge was keeping us hot and stable with moderate humidity, now we’re a little less hot with more humidity and thundershowers that pop up almost every afternoon.
For the most [...]

With an unstable atmosphere – it’s possible we could see some strong to severe thunderstorms through 6pm. The best chance of the stronger storms will track north of I-20. The primary threats include winds over 5omph, small hail, and frequent lightning. Stay with Fox 6 for updates. We are not anticipating a tornado threat.

July is, on average, Columbus’s second wettest month of the year. It’s also our hottest, which means when things get unusually dry, growing things can really suffer in the heat. So far this year we’re eight days into the month and have yet to see our first measurable rain.
The recent heat wave, which saw Columbus reach 101º [...]

Our exposure to the extreme temperatures will be brief this time around. Friday will bring one more day of heat, as we will threaten the 100º mark again under a scorching sun and slightly higher humidity.
Additionally, the bright blue sky of a couple days ago is giving way to more haze as the large, hot air [...]

The big weather story for us will continue to be the heat, at least for the next couple of days. The upper level high responsible for the extreme temperatures in the Northeast will drift south and park itself over the Gulf region, bringing with it the same hot air mass that has been breaking records [...]

Highs across the Northeast today climbed into the triple digits with New York City reaching 102 and Baltimore reaching 104. In fact, highs in Canada were in the lower 90s. The upper-level ridge will persist through the rest of the week. This means very little rain and a whole lot of heat. Temperatures here in [...]

We’ve been as high as 98º twice in June for our hottest temperatures of the summer so far, and this week we have a chance to top that. A piece of the air mass responsible for the Northeast heat wave will come our way as the upper ridge center is pushed southward. Temperatures will soar on Wednesday [...]
