Enough Winter…Bring On Spring!
The forecast over the next 36 hours continues to have more questions than answers…where and how much snow will fall is still not entirely clear and this will likely turn into a nowcast, rather than a forecast. It’s probably reasonably safe to say though that this will be our last brush with snow this winter. March is not typically a snowy month in North Alabama as we average a mere .4″. The heaviest snowfall was in 1993 when 7.3″ fell (most of that from the “superstorm”). In an average March high temperatures climb from 59 on the 1st to 68 by the 31st. The hottest monthly temperature was 90 in 1929. Overnight lows also rise from 37 on the 1st to 45 on the 31st. The coldest March temperature was 6 set back in 1980. March is the wettest month of the year with an average precipitation of 6.68″. Our wettest March…17″ of rain in March of 1980. Spring officially arrives at 12:32 pm Saturday March 20th!
