Winter Returns: Complicated Forecast
A series of Gulf lows will parade through over the next several days. Most of these will tend to pass far enough south to take most of the moisture into the Gulf. But, each one of these systems will produce interesting possibilities for central and south Alabama. Take the one for late tonight and tomorrow morning, for example. This one will spread a little bit of cold light rain into the area late tonight and tomorrow morning, before ending my mid-morning. Temperatures will be cold enough aloft to allow a few snow flakes to mix in with the rain at times, but surface temperatures will be far too warm for any type of accumulation, with lows in the upper 30’s tonight and afternoon highs in the mid 40’s. Even after the precipitation ends, Wednesday will be a cold breezy, raw winter’s day. Skies will clear tomorrow night as the Mercury plunges into the 20’s
The next Gulf low in the parade will spread precipitation back into the area on Friday night into Saturday morning. And, as with the first one, there could be some snowflakes mixed in with the rain at the very least. This system will have to be monitored closely. Stay tuned!
And, then there is yet another Gulf low which really could cause some wintry problems for parts of the Gulf coast states! This one couldbe the biggest trouble-maker of all. But, it’s far too early to speculate on the details on that one. Let’s take these one at a time.
Here is the NAM forecast model at 12Z Wednesday Morning. (6:00 am) Looks pretty dry on this run.
