Looking Ahead to the Weekend

We’re on a run of 4 straight days of sunshine (well, 3½ - since it did rain early Monday before clearing up) and now we’re starting to see temperatures respond to the sunshine.  We have one more night of cold, sub-freezing temperatures, but even though it’s been chilly of late there’s a lack of arctic air in the U.S. and none headed our way anytime soon.  By the weekend, we will see temperatures back near normal for the latter half of February, meaning highs in the mid-60s and lows around 40º.

No major storm systems are headed this way, either.  Clouds will be a bit more noticeable Saturday and Sunday, then a fairly weak low pressure system is going to come east and send a cold front our way.  That may have just enough Gulf moisture to bring showers to the area Sunday night and more likely on Monday.

After that system leaves, forecasters will be watching for another possible pattern shift that could bring arctic air back into the mix for the eastern U.S., but it’s too early to figure out how that may impact our weather next week and beyond.
