Sun to Rain (Again!)
What a great Wednesday we’ve been able to enjoy here on the third day of February! Sunshine has dominated Alabama and Georgia with temperatures that have been at least seasonable. Lest anyone think today signals an end to winter, though, I recommend they check the rest of the forecast.
The high clouds we’re seeing this afternoon signal the arrival of the next rain system to affect us. Rain has enveloped most of Texas as a brewing storm works its way through Mexico on its way to the Gulf. Low pressure will reform there, then move east and finally northeast, taking rain into and through our area beginning late Thursday through much of Friday. It’s a scenario that’s become familiar over the last month.
Rain amounts could be fairly heavy, but not too excessive. A inch or two is likely for most of the area.
As the system moves away, the rain should end in time for Saturday but the combination of low level moisture and cold air rushing in may keep cloud cover around for much if not all of the day. Our next legitimate shot at a sunny day may not come until Super Bowl Sunday.
Temperatures will be chilly again this weekend but not extreme by any means. Signs are pointing to a stronger batch of arctic air making it in here late next week; we’ll see if that prospect holds in the days to come.
