Groundhog Day…Already!

Seems like January flew by, as we are already gearing up for Groundhog day tomorrow. So what does the forecast look like in Punxsutawney, PA? (By the way, Punxsutawney is a little north of a half way point between State College and Pittsburgh)

For now, the forecast is looking cloudy and bitterly cold in Punxsutawney. In fact, with temperatures in the teens, Phil just might go back into his hole shadow or not simply to stay warm. Cloud cover might give the assumption of a ‘no shadow’ forecast and thus a shorter winter. However, don’t be fooled! Last year, with overcast skies, Phil still saw a shadow. TV superficial lighting, perhaps?

Regardless of Phil’s forecast, the experts are trending towards a few more chilly weeks. Perhaps not as cold as we were to start January, but spring break is not around the corner. Check out the the Climate Prediction Center’s forecast here: http://www.cpc.noaa.gov/
