Alabama’s Weekend Drying Out
The rainy start to our weekend produced totals of more than two inches in some places, such as Dothan (2.66″) and Evergreen (2.23″), with one-inch tallies quite common across central and southern Alabama. The rain departed before midday, leaving a low cloud layer and a cold wind for Saturday afternoon. The northerly wind will persist through Sunday, pumping in dry air, so look for the clouds to give way to mostly clear weather for the rest of the weekend.
We’re in for an active ‘zonal flow’ weather pattern during the week ahead, with disturbances tracking through generally west to east, which will prevent our having to endure any frigid, arctic conditions. Mornings will be quite cold at the start of the week, though, with lows around 30 or a little below.
All the recent rain has left lawns saturated, so a drying-out period would be helpful. But don’t count on that. A series of upper-level disturbances could give SE Alabama a bit of rain on Tuesday, followed by much higher precipitation probabilities across the state on Thursday and Friday.
For now, a sprawling high-pressure area centered over the middle-Mississippi Valley will maintain mostly sunny weather through Monday. Don’t forget your sunglasses for that blinding morning commute.
