Storms From the Pacific
Wet weather has been affecting much of California and the intermountain West as storms riding on a fast upper jet come in off the Pacific and crash into the coast. That rapid moving river of air at the higher altitudes will continue on through the South and affect us as well.
First up will be a piece of a Pacific storm breaking through the Rockies with a surface low developing in the Plains/Midwest region. That system will pick up moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, with rain and thunderstorms developing Wednesday over the lower Mississippi Valley. As soon as late Wednesday the rain could be into our East Alabama counties, and it will overspread all of our area Wednesday night and into Thursday. Instability should be enough for some thunderstorms, maybe even a line of stronger storms crossing the valley early Thursday. The low will slowly work its way east and should take most of the rain out by Thursday night.
Next comes a different but potentially stronger system over the weekend which could bring more rain and storms to the Gulf region. For us, rain likely won’t arrive until Sunday with Saturday remaining dry. Much of the weather we’ll get from this system remains unresolved at this point, but it looks like it could be yet another significant rain producer.
