Here We Go Again!

There’s yet another cold, rainy day coming as we get set to close out the last work week before the Christmas holiday.  Low pressure in the Gulf will track south of here and move east, eventually curving up the Atlantic coast while remaining offshore.  That puts us in line for more significant rain, although the heaviest should fall south of our area.

This is already the wettest December in Columbus records.  Up through today we have had 10.41″, breaking the old record of 9.39″ set in 1953.  We’ll also tack on a bit more to our record yearly total which stands at 76.99″ (at WTVM we’ve collected even more: 78.02″ to date).

Rain should quickly come to an end late Friday as the low moves away, drawing down a good surge of cold air for our weekend which at least is going to wind up dry.

Christmas update: Forecast models continue to waffle on the scenario for late next week, but the possibility of snow in the South is still on the table. There will be a storm (somewhere) and there will be cold air around, so the setup looks possible with the details yet to be worked out.
