Montgomery Outlook
What a chilly start this morning and our coldest night of the season! We reached 34 degrees in Montgomery. A frost advisory was issued early this morning; however, this was not our first frost of the season. Our first frost was back on October 19 when we reached 35 degrees. Still haven’t seen our first freeze, and looks like we might be waiting beyond the average date of the first freeze (November 19) to reach below the 32 mark in Montgomery.
Don’t be fooled though, tonight will still be a cold one with temperatures expected to drop to the mid 30s overnight across Central Alabama. High pressure will be plopped right on top of Central Alabama. Combine the placement of high pressure with mostly clear skies and low dewpoints, we can expect yet another frosty night.
In fact, a frost advisory is in place Thursday from 3 am until 8 am for our entire viewing area minus the southeastern corner (Coffee, Dale, Houston, Geneva, and Henry Counties). Counties within the Mobile NWS are under the advisory from 2 am until 7 am, but really whats an hour here or there…point being it’s going to be cold and frost is possible.
The same high pressure that is keeping us cold each night will actually grant us a few fall-like days for Thursday and Friday. Expect temperatures to increase a bit to the mid-upper 60s with ample sunshine. The forecast begins to change on Saturday. A low pressure system will skirt right along the Gulf and eventually to the north east. This will provide showers in south Alabama extending north during the day Saturday. Sunday, the low pressure system will start to head out of our area; but a few sprinkles could be possible.
While we are at it, lets look ahead to Thanksgiving week. Disclaimer: this forecast can and will most likely change since we are about a week away. However, anticipation and interest level is high during busy travelling periods. So a nutshell of what is possible follows: Things look dry on Monday before a weak cool front approaches for the day on Tuesday. Right now, this looks like our best chance for rain within the Thanksgiving week; however, at this time, moisture seems limited and rain fall totals could just be scattered scarcely across the area. However, a common trend shows much colder air filtering in for Thanksgiving and through the weekend. Nothing says holiday spirit like high in the mid 50s, right?
