Steeplechase Weather

Good weather is always welcome on the first weekend of November, because it’s when the Steeplechase at Callaway is held on Saturday.  Weather has not always cooperated, but this year, it will – in a big way!  A cool morning will lead to 70-degree temperatures in the afternoon along with sparkling blue skies and sunshine.  Race-goers and partiers couldn’t have asked for much better!

Good timing – because after Saturday the weather will begin to change.  Computer models are starting to latch on to the idea that moisture will return to Alabama and Georgia and combine with low pressure development to bring rain as early as Monday but more likely Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tropical Storm Ida briefly became a hurricane before coming ashore in Nicaragua today.  It will have a major impact on Central America primarily due to heavy rains and flooding.  Ida should be of no big concern to us here in the Chattahoochee Valley even though current NHC forecasts bring the storm into the southern Gulf in some form, provided it survives its passage over Central America.  The westerlies at this time of year should steer whatever’s left of Ida toward the Florida peninsula, although it may help enhance the rain next week for our area in an indirect way.
